Burledge

Burledge Hillfort

We prepared an Archaeological Management Plan for a HLS agreement holder for the Burledge Iron Age Hillfort, West Harptree, Somerset.  This large univallate hillfort is a Scheduled Monument and part SSSI, sited within the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  Our plan sought to understand the significances and issues surrounding this important archaeological and landscape feature, and in turn provided a holistic conservation strategy for the monument that will enhance its significance whilst retaining its tranquil atmosphere.  Recommended works included scrub clearance and tree works, the relocation of water troughs and replacement of bridle path gates.
